Trakya University 2026-2027 Second Placement Applications Are Open
Trakya University has opened its second placement applications for international students for the 2026-2027 academic year. Based in Edirne, the university holds a special position for students from the region thanks to its gateway location to the Balkans — and that is reflected in its quota structure.

- Final registration dates: 15-25 September 2026
The registration window is ten days. Since registration begins immediately after results, you need to prepare your documents now.
Accepted Documents
For this round, Trakya University accepts applications with TR-YÖS and the high school diploma. Candidates who have not sat TR-YÖS can apply with their high school grades — an important door for those who missed the exam.
The Most Critical Detail: Balkan Countries vs Other Countries
This is the most important feature of the announcement, and it is usually missing from circulating summaries.
Trakya University sets its quotas in two separate columns: "Balkan Countries" and "Other Countries". According to the 2026-2027 general quota table, the university's total quota is 1,536 places, distributed as follows:
- Quota allocated to Balkan countries: 886 places
- Quota allocated to other countries: 650 places
- Undergraduate programs total: 969 places (597 Balkan, 372 other)
- Associate degree programs total: 567 places (289 Balkan, 278 other)
In other words, which country you apply from determines which quota pool you are assessed in. For candidates applying from Balkan countries, the quota is visibly wider.
Health Programs Are Balkan-Quota Only
The most striking consequence of this split appears in the health field. In the quota table, health-related programs show zero in the "Other Countries" column:
- Faculty of Medicine: 14 places (Balkan), 0 (other countries)
- Faculty of Dentistry: 7 places (Balkan), 0 (other countries)
- Faculty of Pharmacy: 5 places (Balkan), 0 (other countries)
- Nursing: 19 places (Balkan), 0 (other countries)
- Nutrition and Dietetics: 9 places (Balkan), 0 (other countries)
- Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation: 6 places (Balkan), 0 (other countries)
- Audiology: 5, Ergotherapy: 4, Health Management: 5 — all Balkan-quota only
This means that if you are applying from outside the Balkan countries, this quota structure leaves no route into Trakya University's health programs. Build your preference list accordingly; if you are targeting medicine or dentistry, you may need to look at other universities' announcements.
If you are unsure which category your country falls into, ask the university's International Student Office before applying.
Strong Alternatives for Non-Balkan Applicants
Outside the health field, the other-countries quota is quite generous. The standout programs and their "other countries" quotas:
- Faculty of Engineering: Mechanical Engineering 14, Computer Engineering 12, Genetics and Bioengineering 8, Electrical and Electronics Engineering 7, Food Engineering 3
- Faculty of Theology: 24 places — one of the university's widest "other countries" quotas
- International Relations: 10 places
- Faculty of Architecture: Architecture 8, Landscape Architecture 6, Interior Architecture 4
- Faculty of Education: English Language Teaching 11, German Language Teaching 10, Pre-School Teaching 9, Primary Mathematics Teaching 8
There are wide opportunities at associate degree level too. At the Havsa, İpsala and Keşan vocational schools, some programs have a higher other-countries quota than the Balkan one — İpsala Vocational School's Electronics Technology and Logistics programs each carry 10 places for other countries.
Tunca Vocational School also offers distance learning programs: Computer Programming and Web Design and Coding, each with 10 Balkan plus 10 other-countries places.
Balkan Language Departments
Trakya University's regional position is reflected in its Faculty of Letters. Programs include Albanian Language and Literature, Bosnian Language and Literature, Modern Greek Language and Literature, and Bulgarian and German Translation and Interpreting. Quotas in these departments are distributed evenly between Balkan and other countries.
If you want to study academically in your own native language, these programs are worth considering.

- Which quota pool you belong to. Balkan countries or other countries? This determines which programs are open to you.
- The quota of your target program. Do not spend a preference on a program with zero places in your category.
- Which document you will apply with. TR-YÖS or high school diploma?
- Your registration preparation. Registration begins on 15 September; complete translation and certification of your documents in advance.
