Dokuz Eylül University has opened supplementary placement applications for international students for the 2026-2027 academic year. The window is short for candidates hoping to join one of İzmir's most established universities.
Application Calendar
- Applications open: 1 September 2026
- Applications close: 4 September 2026
- Announcement of results: 14 September 2026
- Registration dates: 15-18 September 2026
The application window is four days, and registration lasts only four days. Once results are announced, not a single day can be wasted — prepare your documents now.
Candidates may choose a maximum of 3 different programs.
TR-YÖS Thresholds by Faculty
According to the minimum criteria document published by Dokuz Eylül University, TR-YÖS thresholds are set on a sliding scale by faculty. The minimum scores required, out of 500:
- Faculty of Medicine: at least 425 points
- Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Law: at least 400 points
- Faculties of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation, Nursing, Architecture, Engineering and Veterinary Medicine: at least 375 points
- Faculties of Buca Education (excluding programs admitting by special talent exam), Maritime, Letters, Science, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Business and Tourism: at least 350 points
- Faculty of Fine Arts (excluding programs admitting by special talent exam) and Faculty of Theology: at least 300 points
- Programs admitting students by special talent exam result: at least 200 points
- Associate degree programs: at least 200 points
The document also states which TR-YÖS exams are valid. Since results are valid for 2 years from the exam date, the 2024-TR-YÖS/2, 2025-TR-YÖS/1, 2025-TR-YÖS/2 and 2026-TR-YÖS/1 exams are accepted. In other words, a result from two years ago may still be usable.
A Critical Restriction on GCE A-Level
This is an item often missed in circulating announcements but it matters enormously. The university's document carries an explicit warning:
Only TRNC nationals may apply with a GCE A-Level certificate — provided they did not study at or graduate from high schools in Türkiye or from TRNC high schools following the Turkish curriculum.
So if you are not a TRNC national, you cannot apply to Dokuz Eylül with your A-Level scores; you must use the TR-YÖS route.
For TRNC candidates, the A-Level grade equivalents are: A*=140, A=120, B=100, C=80, D=60, E=40. The faculty-level requirements are highly specific:
- Faculty of Medicine: a total of at least 400 points across 3 subjects. Two of these must be Mathematics and Biology, both with a grade of A*. The third must be chosen from Physics or Chemistry with a grade of at least A.
- Faculty of Dentistry: a total of at least 380 points across 3 subjects. Two must be Mathematics and Biology; Mathematics must be A* and Biology at least A. The third must be Physics or Chemistry with at least A.
- Faculty of Law: a total of at least 380 points across 3 subjects. One must be Mathematics with a grade of at least A*. The other two must be chosen from Geography, Sociology, History, Economics, Business, Politics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry.
The document adds three further warnings: all three subjects must be taken within the same year, "Ordinary" and "Subsidiary" grades are absolutely not accepted, and documents bearing a "Predicted Grade" are considered invalid.
2026-2027 Tuition Fees
The university's supplementary placement quota and conditions document publishes annual tuition fees by program. The headline figures:
- Faculty of Medicine (Turkish, 6 years): ₺742,000
- Faculty of Dentistry (Turkish, 5 years): ₺315,000
- Faculty of Law (Turkish, 4 years): ₺107,100
- Nursing (Turkish, 4 years): ₺105,000
- Business, Public Administration, Labour Economics, Econometrics and similar programs: ₺107,100
- Faculty of Science programs (Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, Mathematics): ₺117,600
- Vocational school programs (Bergama, Efes, Kiraz): ₺71,400
These figures confirm the pattern described in our earlier article: within a single university, the gap between medicine and other fields is enormous. Medicine costs roughly seven times what law costs. For the wider picture of costs in Türkiye, see our cost and scholarship guide.
Quotas and Program-Specific Conditions
Quotas have been opened in many faculties for this supplementary round. There are 5 places in Medicine, 5 in Dentistry and 20 in the Faculty of Law. Nursing and various Economics and Administrative Sciences programs have quotas of between 5 and 10.
The quota document also sets out special conditions worth noting:
- Programs with compulsory preparatory year. Programs taught in English include a compulsory one-year preparatory program, not counted within the stated study duration. The document carries a clear warning: students who fail to complete the preparatory class successfully within 2 years are dismissed from the program.
- Programs with optional preparatory year. Most Turkish-taught programs offer a one-year optional English preparatory program subject to quota availability.
- Clothing and equipment requirements. Some programs, such as those in the Faculty of Tourism, require students to obtain the clothing and equipment the profession demands. The colour and model are standardised, and procurement is the student's responsibility.
- Education in different districts. Teaching at the Bergama, Efes (Selçuk) and Kiraz vocational schools takes place in those districts rather than central İzmir. Plan your accommodation accordingly.
Before making your choices, read the "Bk." coded notes next to any program you are interested in.
If You Are Not Placed in This Round
Not being placed in one round does not mean the process is closed. Universities open new rounds from time to time depending on remaining quotas. Keep following Dokuz Eylül University's international student page.
Other universities also have applications open during the same period; we publish these announcements daily on our blog.
How to Apply
Clarify these points before applying:
- Which document you will apply with. TR-YÖS or GCE A-Level? A-Level is valid only for TRNC nationals.
- Whether you meet the threshold. Check the minimum score for the faculty you are targeting.
- Your three preferences. With only three choices available, build a realistic list.
- Your payment plan. Results are announced on 14 September and registration closes on 18 September.
